Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roys renowned new Bengal film Bohurupi will have its digital premiere next month. The film directed by the Powerhouse duo contains the film a powerful ensemble line -up, including Mukherjee itself, together with the actors Abir Chatterjee, Ritabhari Chakraborty and Koushani Mukherjee.
Bohurupi is inspired by real bank robberies that shake West Bengal between 1998 and 2005. It is about the transformative journey of a man who is drawn by betrayal, detention and an irreconcilable system. The film offers exciting thrills that keep the audience on the edge of their seats and have deeper questions of justice, morality and identity. Bohurupi will be available for streaming on ZEE5 from May 9, 2025.
The film, which was playing in the 1990s, follows Bikram (Shiboprosad Mukherjee), a trade graduate, whose life derailed after it is wrongly imprisoned. In prison, he connects with an experienced bank robber and acts as a master of cladding, orchestrated daring attacks-one in the Ajaygunj co-operative bank. His actions trigger a tense cat mouse tracking hunt with Cop Sumanta Ghosal (Abir Chatterjee).

The directors Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy spoke about the film: “With Bohurupi we wanted to examine how far a man can go if we can be pushed to the edge by a system that should protect him.
Abir Chatterjee, who plays Sumanta Ghosal, added: “Playing Sumanta Ghosal in Bohurupi was a deeply urgent experience. He is not just a police officer who chases a criminal – he is a man who is torn between duty and morality, and constantly questions where the border between justice and revenge works.
Ritabhari Chakraborty, who plays Pori Ghoshal, said: “For me, Bohurupi is a very special film. I work with Shibuda and Nanditididi for the first time. Has so many layers and bears so intense inner pain that it was incredibly difficult to get it on the screen.”
Koushani Mukherjee, who plays Jhimli Pramanik, mentioned: “Playing Jhimli Pramanik in Bohurupi was one of the most powerful experiences of my career. She is wild, complex and caught in the storm of circumstances over her control. Every scene has pushed me emotionally and only worked with an incredible team.”
On May 9, 2025, Bohurupi will be digitally premiered on ZEE5.
